Adult ADHD: Symptoms you need to look out for

Adult attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a mental health condition that is accompanied by a range of symptoms. Are you noticing certain recurring patterns that are causing you to stumble in your personal and professional life? Being disorganized, stressed, hyperactive, having difficulty listening, showing impulsive behavior, or feeling anxious are common symptoms of adult ADHD. In adults, these are subtle and tougher to identify when compared to kids. The treatment for adult ADHD is psychological counseling and/or medicines. Here are the symptoms you need to watch out for in adult ADHD.

Disorganization

We may sometimes lose track of things. But people with ADHD find it very difficult to keep things in place, carry out tasks or prioritize them logically. They lack organizational skills.

Lack of focus

People with ADHD can forget important details or not pay attention to them during conversation. They get easily distracted.

Maintaining relationships

Those with ADHD can get bored easily, talk over people during a conversation, or exhibit a low attention span.

Finding it hard to listen

Victims of ADHD often have trouble listening. It’s common for them to get lost during a conversation and struggle to get back on track.

Anxiety and restlessness

People with ADHD may be constantly motoring, moving around and trying to accomplish different tasks. When you do not get what you want at once, it could get frustrating. The resulting restlessness can make you anxious leading to behaviors like getting worried, tapping your feet or hands, not being able to sit still, etc.

Memory issues

It's human nature to forget things, but for people with ADHD, the occurrence is high. You forget birthdays, anniversaries, or even deadlines for your projects. You find it hard to complete these tasks.

Misplacing things

You leave your keys or your wallet in the car or at home and find it difficult to recollect where you left them.

Emotional instability

While most of us experience mood swings, if they increase in frequency and intensity and affect your personal and professional life, you may need professional help in managing it. Those with ADHD show extreme fluctuations in their mood.

Feeling weak and tired

Restlessness, hyperactivity, lack of sleep and side effects of ADHD medicines can make you feel weak. Your body gets drained out and finds it tough to carry out tasks.

If you are noticing these symptoms often in your daily life, consult your health professional and seek treatment. Educating yourself about the disorder through reliable sources of information is the first step to recovery.
